The aim is to improve road safety and better control this type of vehicle, which is increasingly used in cities.<\/p>\n<p>With this new regulation, scooters are officially identified and their users must meet a series of requirements in order to circulate legally.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>MANDATORY TO CIRCULATE<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Register the scooter with the DGT<\/li>\n<li>Carry a visible identification label<\/li>\n<li>Take out third-party liability insurance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>WHICH SCOOTERS ARE AFFECTED?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The regulation applies to so-called Personal Light Vehicles (PLV):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 person only<\/li>\n<li>Electric<\/li>\n<li>Speed between 6 and 25 km\/h<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>That is, <strong>most electric scooters<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Required certificate<\/strong>: To register it, you need a circulation certificate that guarantees the scooter complies with the regulations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>SPECIAL CASE: OLD SCOOTERS<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><u>Purchased before 22\/01\/2024<\/u><\/strong>: They can be used <strong>until 22\/01\/2027<\/strong>, even if they do not have a certificate<\/li>\n<li><strong><u>Purchased after 22\/01\/2024<\/u><\/strong>: They must have a <strong>mandatory certificate<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><u>From 22\/01\/2027 onwards<\/u><\/strong>: <strong>All scooters must be certified and approved<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>QUICK SUMMARY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you have an electric scooter:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Register it with the DGT<\/li>\n<li>Attach the label<\/li>\n<li>Take out insurance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Without this, <strong>you will not be able to circulate legally<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Since January 2026, a new regulation from the DGT has come into force that governs the use of electric scooters in Spain.
